How to Add Wireless to Your Old Laptop
Almost all new laptops already have built more than a wireless transmitter and receiver unit on the motherboard or in a special port installed in the housing. If you want to use for adding an old wireless laptop, you can update quickly and easily, without splash out on a completely new machine.
1. Step 1
Check your laptop manual or visit a computer store or on the website to find out whether a compartment for your laptop has a wireless card. The good news is that this compartmentcan offer a really simple solution for the installation of wireless. However, the bad news is that the wireless card is almost always a "proprietary part", this means is that you remove the card from the same company who manufactured your laptop purchase, and pay any price necessary for the card. Some manufacturers discourage the installation of these cards myself, so you may have to end up paying for an engineer to install the card.
2. Step 2
Another way to addWLAN is an old laptop through the purchase of a Plug and Play PC Card wireless transceiver. The main problem is that your laptop only one or two PC Card slots, so obviously you know how many other cards that you have installed, may be limited. To overcome this, some companies combine a wireless transceiver with a network interface card (NIC) that gives access to your laptop to connect to either a wireless network or a wired Ethernet in a single device. Something else to note isthat the card is probably a small antenna that protrudes from the side of your laptop. It's a good idea to remove the card before you put away your laptop after each use to ensure that the antenna not be damaged during transport or storage.
3. Step 3
A second plug-and-play solution is a USB wireless adapter that you can just use a free USB port on your notebook. As with PC cards, they are from a variety of computer and IT shops are available,to keep the competition to get healthy, and the prices relatively low. A USB wireless adapter will also hold out from the side of the computer as well, but is a much more robust solution. Unlike the PC card antenna, the USB device is able to stand most of them receives a knock, but it is still recommended that you use it a habit to remove the device when the computer shuts down after each use preserved.
Conclusion
As you can see, it's incredibly easy to turn your oldLaptop into a wireless laptop. It is also compared to a much cheaper alternative to the cost of purchasing a brand new laptop. By adding wireless to an old laptop, not only you save money, but you save yourself the time to secure and transfer all your files and programs to a new machine.
