Laptops Going Green
You can help the environment by making a simple decision. By Going Green with your computer. This is achieved by notebook computers that are environmentally friendly and made a long time for a fee. New "green laptops" take the idea of an environmentally friendly laptop even further. They are smaller than in other notebooks, longer on one charge, and in accordance with environmental regulations. This ultraportble, small footprint and lighter notebooks are inherently "green"than heavier, larger presence of products for a few reasons: They are designed to achieve the desired performance while consuming less material to manufacture and less energy for transportation and distribution. Packaging requirements are also reduced, saving material and energy. Laptops not so much power as a desktop, mainly because the processor is only on the drawing 35W or less, compared with about 65 watts or more for a desktop CPU. The advantage is that your electric bill is not aseither high.
Less hazardous components
Although notebooks are generally much more energy efficient than desktops. You are not greener than desktops in other respects. They generally contain the same hazardous components, and they are not easily recyclable. However, a few "green" notebooks are now on the market.
Lenovo Thinkpad X300 is the company's first EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) Gold certified notebook. Just 15 laptops haveachieved this rating date. The X300 uses mercury free LEDs to illuminate its display. This saves energy and enables thinner display. It uses a solid state drive, which is much lighter, more reliable and faster than a conventional hard drive. It includes a Low Voltage processor and has improved "battery stretch" software for energy savings. It meets the Energy Star 4.0 criteria and 25% more efficient than the previous generation of Lenovo notebooks. The packaging for theX300 are 90% recyclable and the use of toxic substances such as cadmium, lead and arsenic have been reduced.
The MacBook Air is one of the greenest computers from Apple. The air show was the first from Apple to be mercury and arsenic free. The all-aluminum case was also a good choice, such as aluminum is easily recyclable and highly desirable, through recycling. The Air qualified for a Silver EPEAT rating (all boards bromide and PVC-free). It is also certified as Energy Star 4.0. On the PCMagazines energy testing, which produces 14 watts, while it is idle to 14 watts Energy Star's consistent (and below) is required. The reading was taken while the system was running Leopard after 15 minutes of inactivity. You can equipped the MacBook Air with a 64GB solid state drive, which further reduces the power requirements. Apple has taken the retail packaging of the machine and reduces it by 50%.
Green Computing is Here to Stay
No matter how you look at it,green computing is here to stay. Laptops get more efficient, smaller, safer, and for the planet. EPA estimates that could be reduced over the next five years, the purchase of EPEAT registered computers, 4 million pounds of hazardous waste, and save enough energy for two million households.
